A conference will be held on 18–22 November 2013 in Accra, Ghana, on the theme “Beyond Rio+20: Emerging Challenges and Opportunities”. The conference is being organized by the United Nations University Institute for Natural Resources in Africa (UNU-INRA), Initiative Prospective Agricole et Rurale (IPAR Senegal) and the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER, University of Ghana), with support from the International Development Research Center.

The aim of this bilingual (English and French) conference, which will assemble several African think tanks, is to share views on the post-Rio+20 world, deepen our understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead, and lay the foundations of a collective reflection on how to better implement the Rio+20 outcomes within Africa.

This initiative will contribute to strengthening the research capacities of think tanks, improve their policy linkages and connect their voices to the global development agenda. The conference also will bring together prominent policymakers and civil society representatives who can help connect Africa to the reflection on inclusive green growth, contribute to mobilize political will throughout the continent and better incorporate the voice of Africa in this global policy debate.

This conference will feature panel discussions, keynote presentations and session papers.

Papers are sought on a range of themes, including (but not limited to) inclusive green growth, decent work and social inclusion, green jobs, opportunities and challenges of a green economy in Africa, and sustainable development goals.

The deadline for abstracts (of no more than 600 words) is 24 August 2013.

The costs of participation at the conference will be covered for a limited number of invited speakers and selected papers. Presenters who can support themselves are particularly encouraged to apply.

For more information, including how to submit an abstract, see the Call for Papers document or the event announcement on the UNU website.
