The United Nations University Institute for Natural Resources in Africa (UNU-INRA), in collaboration with the African Climate Policy Centre (ACPC) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), is implementing a 2-year project entitled: “Climate Change, Agricultural Trade and Food Security in ECOWAS”. The project aims at assessing whether agricultural production systems and trade policies in ECOWAS can be adjusted to alleviate the impact of climate change on food security, and promote sustainable development in the region.
As part of the first phase of the project, 13 country assessment studies have been carried out in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo. To finalize these country assessment studies , UNU-INRA is holding national validation workshops across the 13 African countries from January 29 – February 26, 2015 at 8:30am -17:00 pm. The aim of these workshops is to discuss the preliminary findings of the project and open dialogues for maximising its policy impacts.
